Earlier this year a vintage camera collector bought a box of old 8mm and 16mm film reels and audio spools, dating back to 1967, from a deceased estate. What he discovered on these film reels left him speechless.
In an interview with the camera collector – who prefers to remain anonymous – he stated: "I just bought this box of old film reels, thinking that there would just be some old home footage on them. How was I supposed to know what was going to be on those reels and the storm it would create?"
The film reels show footage of Republic Intelligence agents investigating a strange object that landed on a farm in the Karoo on December 3rd, 1967. Rumours regarding the events that took place on that day was completely suppressed by the authorities at the time and it received little to no media coverage.
The N.I.A has now, however, seized the footage and placed an international embargo on it, prohibiting it from ever being displayed publicly. In a brief interview, the head of investigation said: "It doesn't matter under which regime the footage was filmed. That footage belongs to the South African government and that's it." Furthermore, they have stated that they will not to disclose any other information regarding these films.
Since September 2020, a vigilante group working under the nom de guerre ‘A Box of Film’ has been hosting secret screenings of the footage in undisclosed locations in Berlin, Amsterdam and Paris.
The vigilante group disseminates information regarding these secret screenings from a VPN-protected website called www.aboxoffilm.com
The public is warned to not, under any circumstances, attend these screenings.
